  1.  20:1  And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth
  2. [month], the tenth [day] of the month, [that] certain of the
  3. elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before
  4. me.
  5.  20:2  Then came the word of the LORD unto me, saying,
  6.  20:3  Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say
  7. unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to inquire of
  8. me? [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of
  9. by you.
  10.  20:4  Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge
  11. [them]? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers:
  12.  20:5  And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day
  13. when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of
  14. the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land
  15. of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I [am]
  16. the LORD your God;
  17.  20:6  In the day [that] I lifted up mine hand unto them, to
  18. bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had
  19. espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which [is] the
  20. glory of all lands:
  21.  20:7  Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the
  22. abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the
  23. idols of Egypt: I [am] the LORD your God.
  24.  20:8  But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto
  25. me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their
  26. eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said,
  27. I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger
  28. against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
  29.  20:9  But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be
  30. polluted before the heathen, among whom they [were], in whose
  31. sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out
  32. of the land of Egypt.
  33.  20:10  Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of
  34. Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.
  35.  20:11  And I gave them my statutes, and showed them my
  36. judgments, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them.
  37.  20:12  Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign
  38. between me and them, that they might know that I [am] the LORD
  39. that sanctify them.
  40.  20:13  But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the
  41. wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised
  42. my judgments, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them;
  43. and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would
  44. pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.
  45.  20:14  But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be
  46. polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.
  47.  20:15  Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the
  48. wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I
  49. had given [them], flowing with milk and honey, which [is] the
  50. glory of all lands;
  51.  20:16  Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in
  52. my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went
  53. after their idols.
  54.  20:17  Nevertheless mine eye spared them from destroying them,
  55. neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness.
  56.  20:18  But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk
  57. ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their
  58. judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols:
  59.  20:19  I [am] the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep
  60. my judgments, and do them;
  61.  20:20  And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign
  62. between me and you, that ye may know that I [am] the LORD your
  63. God.
  64.  20:21  Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they
  65. walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do
  66. them, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them; they
  67. polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury
  68. upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the
  69. wilderness.
  70.  20:22  Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my
  71. name's sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the
  72. heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.
  73.  20:23  I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness,
  74. that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them
  75. through the countries;
  76.  20:24  Because they had not executed my judgments, but had
  77. despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their
  78. eyes were after their fathers' idols.
  79.  20:25  Wherefore I gave them also statutes [that were] not
  80. good, and judgments whereby they should not live;
  81.  20:26  And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they
  82. caused to pass through [the fire] all that openeth the womb,
  83. that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might
  84. know that I [am] the LORD.
  85.  20:27  Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel,
  86. and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your
  87. fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a
  88. trespass against me.
  89.  20:28  [For] when I had brought them into the land, [for] the
  90. which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw
  91. every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered
  92. there their sacrifices, and there they presented the
  93. provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet
  94. savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.
  95.  20:29  Then I said unto them, What [is] the high place
  96. whereunto ye go? And the name thereof is called Bamah unto this
  97. day.
  98.  20:30  Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the
  99. Lord GOD; Are ye polluted after the manner of your fathers? and
  100. commit ye whoredom after their abominations?
  101.  20:31  For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to
  102. pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your
  103. idols, even unto this day: and shall I be inquired of by you, O
  104. house of Israel? [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be
  105. inquired of by you.
  106.  20:32  And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at
  107. all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of
  108. the countries, to serve wood and stone.
  109.  20:33  [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty
  110. hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out,
  111. will I rule over you:
  112.  20:34  And I will bring you out from the people, and will
  113. gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with
  114. a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury
  115. poured out.
  116.  20:35  And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people,
  117. and there will I plead with you face to face.
  118.  20:36  Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness
  119. of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord
  120. GOD.
  121.  20:37  And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will
  122. bring you into the bond of the covenant:
  123.  20:38  And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and
  124. them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of
  125. the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into
  126. the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I [am] the LORD.
  127.  20:39  As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD;
  128. Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter [also], if
  129. ye will not hearken unto me: but pollute ye my holy name no
  130. more with your gifts, and with your idols.
  131.  20:40  For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the
  132. height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house
  133. of Israel, all of them in the land, serve me: there will I
  134. accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the
  135. firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.
  136.  20:41  I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I bring
  137. you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries
  138. wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you
  139. before the heathen.
  140.  20:42  And ye shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I shall
  141. bring you into the land of Israel, into the country [for] the
  142. which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers.
  143.  20:43  And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your
  144. doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall loathe
  145. yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have
  146. committed.
  147.  20:44  And ye shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I have
  148. wrought with you for my name's sake, not according to your
  149. wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house
  150. of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
  151.  20:45  Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
  152.  20:46  Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop
  153. [thy word] toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of
  154. the south field;
  155.  20:47  And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of
  156. the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire
  157. in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and
  158. every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and
  159. all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.
  160.  20:48  And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled
  161. it: it shall not be quenched.
  162.  20:49  Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! they say of me, Doth he not
  163. speak parables?
  164.
